Pennsic 2012 Haulin…

Standard

I wasn’t sure at first if I should do a Pennsic Haul video…I’m never sure about haul things, I don’t want people to think I’m bragging, or that I’m not as broke as I claim to be…but I asked the masses, and the answer was yes. That being said, here’s the companion Blog for the video.

So first off, let me say that I scrimped and saved for Pennsic since April. I crafted, vended, and sold old gold jewelry so I could go and have the best time ever and not worry about bills when I got home. And I seriously did. Also, let me also say, I’m a HUGE bargain shopper.

Alright…the NON dace things first:

I bought the most beautiful Moroccan Lantern from Traders if Tamerlane. Their space was breath-takingly beautiful during Midnight Madness. They vend from a yurt (round tent), and had the fabric pulled back to reveal the frame work, and hanging all around the frame were hundreds of lanterns, all lit in a rainbow of colors, sizes, and textured glass. The picture I took hardly does it justice, it was just so lovely. I had wanted a lamp to finish my living room make over, so I didn’t think twice about buying mine here. I wanted a piece of that magic with me always. Their lanterns started at 11 dollars and went up from there. The one I purchased was 22 with 5 sides and 5 shades of glass on black metal.

I got honey!! Can’t leave Pennsic with out a stop at my favorite honey providers the Bee Folks!! And to my surprise they still had small jars of Meadowfoam left over from last year!! I bought a few sticks to gift people, and purchased a jar for my Sailor-Man to go with his tea. Always amazing prices and products.

Made a stop in Bush Creek Wool Works for my Sailor…turns out he’s rather fond of Thai tea, and this place has some delicious teas. I also picked up a chai mix for him. Both well priced at 2.95 a baggie. While I was there I purchased a pair of henna baggies with little nozzles…think cake decorating supplies. I’m not skilled at rolling henna, so these work well for me…till they break. But hell, they’re a dollar each.                   http://www.etsy.com/shop/brushcreekwoolworks

Lastly, I got my traditional pair of Pennsic Socks. I buy a new pair every single year…this year’s colors were teal and grey. 7 bucks. http://www.thebasketman.com

On to the dance stuff!! Yay!!!!

My very first stop was Saturday on the way down from the parking lot… Marrakesh is known for it’s dance attire, and everyone scrambles to buy a top from Ocean every year. Usually when I arrive, they’re picked over…However this year, he didn’t open on time, and had only been open a day! SCORE! Still, I was unlucky enough that they had still be ransacked…but I did manage to find an awesome short sleeved blue wrap choli. 50 bucks was a little steep, but well worth it for all the options this Option Top offers! http://ashnerbyelizabeth.com/

My second stop was The Spotted Pony, to buy the last two pieces of red leather they had to sell and whip them into a skirt for the Iron Lance party that night. I love their leather, it’s well priced. They offer lots of beads and other things that were once alive. Worth checking out for tribal costumes and the like. http://www.spottedponytraders.com

After the initial insanity of my Saturday sprint through the vendors…the next thing I bought was a new pair of silk mary-janes…the asian style ones from Pillaged Village in a bight scarlet, a huge contrast to my blue ones from a couple years ago that I can’t seem to find. For those who don’t know, The Pillaged Village is sort of like the Wal-Mart of the SCA…if they don’t have it, no one does. http://www.pillagedvillage.com/

Next on my list was a new lace up vest. My current one, although still wearable has a rip on the seam, and since it’s a sheer fabric I can’t repair it. It took me some time to locate a shop that had a decent selection, I’m thinking these are going out of style at last, which makes me sad. I like them a lot. It took me until Tuesday to find one I liked. I found what I wanted at Designs by J…I also found a pair of 25yrd skirt-pants!! She made me an awesome deal, and took every dollar in my wallet at the time. (Because I’m smart enough not to travel with my entire cash-stash at once) http://www.woollycat.net Please note, her Pennsic shop and her online shop have little in common unfortunately. Vest was 40, pants were 80 originally. She broke me a deal of 103 for both. (It was 105, but I only had 103 in my wallet!!)

From Wanderlust I picked up a pair of round beaded patches for 15 that matched. MATCHED. I usually find some super unique Kuchi pieces from them, but I wasn’t feeling it this year to be honest. I also can’t find their online location to save my life…Apparently “Wanderlust” is a super popular company name.
Midnight Madness night, I stopped by Marrakesh again to check out the shirts…you never know…some could have resurfaced! Ineed I was right! The 10 dollar rack was full of goodness!! I bought a new skirt, and a long sleeved top that’s the most hideous print of flowers and brown-teal color you’d ever seen…but I can pull it off! lol I’m talented enough like that to make it work.
Justina and I were hauling out the next morning, but I managed to convince her to take one more trip through the vendors before we left..and i am OH SO GLAD I did!!! I’ve been looking for some well fitted tie-in-the-back cholis that are NOT VELVET for a very long time…and at last I found some at Sultry Treasures!!! Well priced too!! The main reason I haven’t made the choli-purchase yet was because every time I’d find a well-fitting-tie-in-the-back-not-velvet-choli it would be 40 dollars or more…Sultry Treasures offers them for 25!! AND They were still offering their Midnight Madness sale! So I got 2 for 40!! I ended up with a black no-sleeved and a burgundy short sleeved. So happy with it!!! http://www.sultrytreasures.com email about the cholis, they aren’t listed in her products, I think she said they may be new.

Hunger Games Collection!!

Standard

EEE!!!! EEEE!!

I got my hands on some of the new Hunger Games Colors From the Capitol Collection by China Glaze!! Oh SO SO SO excited!!!

Colors From the Capitol

Colors From the Capitol

Back to Front, Left to Right:

Riveting, Harvest Moon, Luxe and Lush, and Smoke and Ashes

I absolutely love each and every…no I don’t I don’t like Harvest Moon…why might you ask?

Hmmm....

Hmm....

One of these things is just like the other…Pop Quiz! Which one is Harvest Moon?

I knew when I picked this up, that the color seemed very familiar to me somehow…It wasn’t until I got home and dug out my color wheel to add Harvest Moon that I noticed it’s exactly the same shade as In Awe of Amber.

Now, there is a slight difference I noticed upon swatching. Harvest Moon is much more sheer when applied, and takes more coats to become opaque.

IAoA Left HM Right

IAoA Left HM Right

See how close they are? With another coat or two I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. If you already own In Awe of Amber, I’d avoid getting Harvest Moon. B’ah! I should have gotten Argo! The above are 1 coat each.

Smoke and Ashes

Smoke and Ashes

Smoke and Ashes

Smoke and Ashes

Oh how I LOVE Smoke and Ashes!! Swoon! It’s a patient leathery black base with teal flecks of glitter packed into it! The finish is smooth and slippery and I JUST LOVE IT!! It’s unfortunately, very hard to photograph because of the ultra shine of it’s finish.

Line Up! Smoke and Ashes, Riveting, and Luxe and Lush

Line Up! Smoke and Ashes, Riveting, and Luxe and Lush

Riveting is a super powerful punch of orange with orange-gold flecks. It’s amazing. The finish is smooth and shiny and lovely. I’m sorry to say I couldn’t get a good swatch of it…the reflective gold glitters were playing havoc with my camera.

Luxe and Lush…Oh who can say enough good things about this textured topper? It’s the middle of the swatch wheel, and looks like shattered glass. When worn over a color, it makes it look chunky and textured with an iridescent shine with out actually being chunky. I love this polish so much I may have to invest in a back up bottle!!

From the China Glaze Site

From the China Glaze Site

Oh how I wish I could find Electrify!!

I’ve got a nail art blog coming up using the colors I’ve purchased to create a look inspired by the book series and upcoming movie! I’m waiting until it gets closer to the movie release date to post my Makeup and Nail looks!

Polish Haulin! Nicole by OPI and Spoiled

Standard
OPI and Spoiled

OPI and Spoiled

Is it really considered a “Haul” when most of it was gifted? Eh…whatever.

Whenever I’m feeling blue, my mother makes it better by buying me nail polish! And well, CVS has had a sale on their Spoiled line 1.50 each with their in store card! Woo-hoo!

In the line up, Left to Right and Back to Front we have…

Nicole by OPI-  Turquoise Texture, Rainbow in the S-Kylie (Kardashian Collection), and Love Your Life.

Spoiled- Jewelry Heist, Shuffle the Deck, My Saturn Broke Down, and Permission to Proceed

Glitter Swatches

Glitter Swatches

Rainbow in the S-Kylie, Shuffle the Deck, Jewelry Heist, My Saturn Broke Down, Love Your Life

So just a heads up…the Nicole OPI Turquoise Texture (Shatter/Crackle) is the same as the regular OPI Turquoise Texture. The only thing I can see different on my nail wheel is their crackle pattern, and if you’ve played with shatter/crackle polishes, you know that’s not even a for sure thing. (Some polishes have large patches with a few crackles, other’s shatter all over the place.) Nicole’s patter crackles, with bigger chunks of crackle polish…maybe. I’d need to do many swatches and compare the two to be sure.

Rainbow in the S-Klyie surprised me. I hadn’t planned on getting any of the Kardashian collection, but since it was a gift I wasn’t going to send it back. I do like it, quite a bit in comparison to the other polishes in the collection that I found dull. This is chock-full of rainbow glitters with larger hexagon shaped glitters. It reminds me of a birthday party in a bottle. I like it a lot, and I’m sure I’ll be using it over other polishes in the future. It’s so fun and festive. It’s strait glitter, no iridescent sheen, just strait up solid colored glitter. The base polish is clear.

Love Your Life is a iridescent glitter with large pink hearts in a clear base. It looks like a sheer pink base in the bottle, but it’s not. I’m…m’eh about this one. It’s cute for Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day, or an Anniversary Dinner or something like that. The glitter doesn’t really pack much of a punch, and is barely there when swatched.

Shuffle the Deck is a chunky glitter topper, although I’m sure it could be worn on it’s own. Clear base polish. Non-iridescent glitter in Black, Red, and Silver.

Jewelry Heist is a little different then Shuffle the Deck. It has the same hexagon glitter chunks but in Pink and Silver with the addition of smaller Green, Silver, and Blue jewel toned baby glitter flecks.

Now for the odd one out…My Saturn Broke Down. Iridescent glitter flecks that flash blue, silver, green, and teal in a jelly base of blue with even smaller flecks of silver glitter. This is one of those polishes that will never be opaque, so don’t try. It’s meant to be sheer and wet looking.

Lastly…There isn’t too much to say about Permission to Proceed. It’s a matte Neon Green. The thing with neon colors, is they’ll always be rather sheer unless you use a base coat of white, so I suggest doing just that.

Awesome Weekend-Full of Reviews!!

Standard

I had a pretty great weekend…and I needed one. It was one of those weekends that was all about me…mostly. I got so much running around done!!

My first two stops of the day were dull. I got my E-Check (emissions check for those of you not from our area, means you get your car checked for harmful to the environment emissions.) and I got my plates for my new van. I intended to get NADEAU as my plates, but then if discovered that because my birthday is at the end of May, I’m going to have to pay for new tags again in a little over 2 months. If I got custom plates now, that’d be 88 dollars now, then another 88 in May….yea I can wait 2 months thanks!

Next I stopped at CVS. I needed a pen to sign a pick up slip for the post office, and one of my students (Hilary) had told me that CVS is carrying the magnetic nail polish for like 6.50…Well…not the CVS near me, they hadn’t gotten them in yet. I did however pick up that pen…and the new Physicians Formula PH Matchmaker!

I was so excited to try this, I couldn’t wait! So I took a few pictures in the car of it and then popped it open and tried it on!

PHmatchmaker

PHmatchmaker

Here’s the package. It says that it uses your body’s temp and the light around you to match your lips and create the perfect color for your complexion. Nifty!

Mirror

It has a mirror!

So yes, it has a mirror on the side…which is pretty awesome. It ALSO has a little button on the top of the applicator, that when pushed lights up! How awesome for quick applications in dark cars, clubs, restaurants, any place with bad lighting! I approve!

I was a little worried about this product to tell you the truth. Any time I’ve used a product that claims to work with your body’s PH (like the “mood” lipstick circa 1990 and making a reappearance.) it would turn out this hideous neon pink color. Not this!! I was very impressed with the gentle pink-mauve color that came out. (You can see it in the mirror!)

The two things I did notice with this… 1. It’s a very sticky gloss. VERY sticky. My hair kept getting stuck to my lips. I’d avoid wearing this during windy days. 2. It can become a little grainy, but when you smoosh your lips around to re-spread the gloss it goes away.

So that being done with…I went to the post office and bank. Then to McDonald’s and got a caramel frappe…and brain freeze. It was WORTH it.

Returned a pair of boots…and then headed off to get my hair done.

Awesome new hair

Awesome new hair...yes there's aqua in it.

I love Studio Sonata at Parmatown Mall. I really can’t tell you enough how great they are.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Studio-Sonata/56682274787?sk=wall

I walked in, and with no appointment was seen with in 10 minutes! They were super busy too, so I was really surprised I wasn’t asked to come back an hour later! Yay!

Every time I go there, I’ve had a different stylist, and every time they are capable and do exactly as I asked. My hair is naturally wavy with some random curls in it, it can be hard to style properly, and harder to get the length I want. I’ve never had them cut it too short, ever. They’re so professional and wonderful, and they also have a referral program. If you bring a friend in, you get money off of your style. (Last time I got 10 dollars off!)

So while I was checking out, I noticed they had some China Glaze and OPI polishes on sale!! 50% off!! I was quite torn…they had Icka-body from China Glaze’s Halloween collection, and Warm-n-Fazzy from the OPI Muppets collection. Oh what to do, they’re very close in color and glitter…I picked Warm-n-Fazzy.

Warm-n-Fazzy OPI and Cotton Candy Scent Claires.

Warm-n-Fazzy OPI and Cotton Candy Scent Claires.

After I was done at the Salon, I decided to go to Claire’s and I was about to get my ears pierced but chickened out. I’m lame. But I did find some of the Cotton Candy Scented Polish!! It was teal…and 2.50. I bought it! It really does smell like cotton candy when it’s completely dry! The down side (Maybe?) Is the little scent grains come to the surface when it’s dried, and creates a rough texture to the nail. You can actually see them, they’re a strange beige color. I haven’t decided if I like the effect or not. Textured nails seem to be very on-trend right now after all.

Also at Claire’s…I found those Magnetic Nail Polishes!!!!

Magnetic Polishes

Magnetix by Claire's

I bought four colors (One not shown). Green, Gold, Silver, and Burgundy. The Burgundy one is with my mother, so I don’t have the bottle picture. Rest assured, the bottle is the same as these three. I think I’ll do a full review on these apart from this blog post..so keep an eye out for that!

Next…I went and for the very first time got my eyebrows threaded.

I went to Beautiful Brows, right next to Claire’s. For 10 dollars I got my brows threaded. It was quick, and only slightly-toe-twitching-painful. I think I was in the chair under 1 minute.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this place. It was completely empty when I walked in, and the girl behind the counter seemed like she didn’t want to be bothered with me. I was really nice to her too, and even complimented her job, my brows really did look nice…well…pretty nice…I noticed after I got into better light and a closer mirror that while they were very nicely shaped, she hadn’t gotten all the brow hair. I still had a few rogue brow hairs which I took care of myself.

My brows were only red for a few minutes, but they did bleed a little more then when I tweeze.

I did a few more uninteresting things at the mall and Wal-Mart, got myself an extra key to my van made, then had lunch at the Chinese buffet and finished choreographing my student’s Qaina piece (Which btw is AMAZING.)

After that, I picked up lunch for my hubs, and headed over to the Whitey’s Arm and Navy shop to get myself a new messenger bag. I now own a Paratrooper bag, which I love more then my girly purses. I think I’m going to single handedly try and bring the military look back into style. My old purse just wasn’t doing it for me, it didn’t have enough room and wasn’t working for everything else in life….and I don’t have a pic of this. Sad.

Got some bubble tea at Sweet Mango.

http://www.sweetmangoohio.com/

I LOVE this place!! Their bubble teas are SO good!! And their pad thai is to DIE for!!

So that was my Saturday. It was just so nice to run around for myself being girly and such. Happiness.

!! BH Cosmetics Review and HUGE Sale!!

Standard

EEEE!!! I am SOOOO excited about this review!!

I have been lusting after the 120 pallet for at least 2 years now.

I know many beauty bloggers who own this pallet under one name or another…BH Cosmetics, Costal Sense, Mac120…although be warned. Mac does NOT make a 120 pallet for general sale, and any auction offering one is a knock off (If it’s from China, it’s most def a knock off!)*.

*A little side note. I called Mac awhile ago, both of the stores local to me (Southland Mall, Macy’s and Crocker Park in Westlake). I got mixed answers. The first place said that Mac doesn’t make the 120 pallet at all, and the ones on ebay are fakes. The second said that Mac may make a 120 pallet, but it’s only available from their pro shops if they do. Also, Mac eyeshadow is not cheap, and a 120 pallet from Mac would run upwards of 1400 dollars when you consider 1 pan of Mac shadow is 12 dollars. A custom 15 color pallet is 188.50. So yea, if it looks too damn good to be true, odds are it is.

So anywho, I’ve been lusting after this pallet for some time, and I’ve been afraid to order one off ebay. I had seen many people unhappy with their orders, mostly because the color pay off was poor, or the shadows crushed in shipping.

A few months ago I found a make up company called BH cosmetics.  http://www.bhcosmetics.com

They were recommended by a beauty vlogger I follow, and I decided to check them out. She seemed very happy with her purchase, and the price on the site was decent. Also, when I ordered they were giving away free black gel eyeliner, so I decided to place my order and try the free product! I like free!! I also ordered a red (Yes RED!) gel eyeliner!

It took about a week to get to me, and the box was stuffed with paper and paper honey-comb. Everything arrived almost completely intact…I was a little miffed. When I opened my pallet, one of the yellow eye shadows popped out of it. It’s completely fine, just seems like the glue gave on it, which could have been because of the cold? I dunno, it’s really not a huge deal, I plan to just glue it back in.

Here it is! The BH Cosmetics Pallet First Edition.

I chose the first edition over the others because it had mostly matte shadows with a few shimmers…I also chose it because it had 3 different Reds. And real RED eyeshadow is like impossible to find. (Mauve, Burgundy, Blush, no RED!)

There are three other 120 pallets available currently, but this is by far my favorite. Not only does it have the bold red, but the color gradient is more uniform. The other pallets seem sort of random to me.

Here are some of the basic colors, no base. To do these swatches, I pressed my finger onto the shadow, then smeared it across my hand. There was NO RUBBING to pick up the pigments. Yellow, Orange, Lavender, Red, Blue, Teal. The color pay off impressed me with such little effort involved. I can’t wait to actually try these with a proper base!!

This is the color pay off just pressing my fingers gently onto the shadows. Very impressive!!

Over all, I’m extremely pleased with this pallet!! It’ll help cut down on the clutter when I travel to gigs, and when I do other people’s makeup.

Also in my order…

Here are the two gel eyeliners. Burn (red) and Onyx(black).

Onyx was my free with order gift.

Swatches of both, no flash. Every time I used a flash the glare was too much. Unfortunately, Burn looks more orange in this picture. It’s RED. RED RED. But the pigment and the spreading ability of these liners is wonderful. I did however notice they can be a little on the waxy side, so keep that in mind. I don’t consider that a bad thing with my oily eyelid issue.

The site claims they can double as an eyeshadow, which I can see…but I would use them as a color base if anything, like the Maybaleen Color Tattoo or Mac Paint Pots.

I really REALLY like these, and can’t wait to use the red one at Qaina!

I do plan to place an order from them again in the near future. I’ve got my eye on the blush and contour pallet, their lip glosses, as well as some of their brushes!

I like this company, ordering was smooth and easy. If you’re new to make up or just don’t have much and want to expand your collection these 120 pallets are well worth the investment. They also offer 88 pallets of the 120 is a little too much for you!

So for everyone who’s stuck through this blog…here’s a little something awesome!

If you’ve decided you want a pallet…or two…now would be the time to get it! As a thank you to their fans for 400,000 likes on Facebook, BH Cosmetics is offering an AMAZING deal! You can get their 88 Matte Tropical Pallet, 88 Cool Matte Pallet, and their Liquid Eye Liner for 20 dollars!! 176 eye shadows AND a liquid liner!! Holy!! I’m sort of sad I didn’t wait another week!!  http://www.bhcosmetics.com/deal-for-day/
