Minty Tips

I just love love LOVE Fast Track by China Glaze. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this pinky-nude at first, but the micro gold glitter just makes my little heart sing. I paired this lovely light nude with I Need a Refresh-Mint by Wet n Wild for a fun refreshing minty-french tip.

Sailor Stripes Fade

Sailor Stripes Fade

I was inspired by the blog Polish You Pretty for this one. I added more stripes to my manicure to better show off the fade under the black stripes. I got many MANY compliments on this manicure. I plan to make this my first nail-art video tutorial! Products I used, in order: 02 Whirlwind White by Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, 340 Mint Sorbet by Sally HansenXtreme Wear, 947 Mint Apple by Sinful Colors, NL N14 Fly, Nikki Minaj collection by OPI, and 242A Black Cream by Wet n Wild.

Spider Man

Spider Man…Spider Man..does whatever a spider can…

Just picked up the main color in this mani from the Spiderman Collection by OPI. It’s called Just Spotted the Lizard and is a crazy metallic Gold/Green/Teal/Copper. I can’t believe I almost passed this one up! The accent finger is Orly’s Galaxy Girl, it’s a duo-chrome holo glitter that flashes¬† from a rich plum to a blue-teal.

Nail Art and Polish Review!

Standard

Oi! I’ve been so so so so busy lately!! And the summer shows no promise of slowing down for me until like July…and then only for a week or two! I guess I should be pretty grateful for being kept so busy.

Anywho…So has anyone else seen the new Border Nails trend? When I first saw a vlog/tutorial on it, I didn’t care for it much. The second one I saw, I liked a little bit better, and actually used that one on my own nails…but I’m still not sure if I actually like it. Maybe I haven’t found the right color combo?

Here’s what I’ve done thus far…

Border Art, Attempt 1

Border Art, Attempt 1

Here is the number one attempt…Red with a silver mini border around black…eeeeeh….I don’t know…The accent nail is silver with a black mini border around red. I’m not sure if it’s the color combo, if the silver was too bright and metallic, or if it was just the red that was bugging me. The manicure looked nice, it just wasn’t me. Red is Poinsettia from China Glaze Black is Lubu Heels from China Glaze, and the silver’s name escapes me. It’s from Sally Hansen’s X-Treme line.

Border Art Attempt 2

Border Art Attempt 2

So attempt 1 bugged me so much, I had to re-do it. I took out the mini border, and found a darker silver by OPI. I liked this a little bit more…I think around this point I decided it was the red that was bothering me. I’m just not a red polish type of gal.

Border Nails Attempt 3

Border Nails Attempt 3

I like this way more then the first two attempts, but I’m still not happy with it. Final conclusion is I just don’t think this new trend is for me. It’s very boxy and mod, and while it’s EXTREMELY easy nail art to do, it’s just NOT me. (Easy nail art- Paint entire nail. Take brush, paint in the middle part by doing 1 or 2 strokes of the middle color. Boom. Done.)

I am however digging the colors I used for Attempt 3. Both are from Wet n Wild’s newest Megalast collection, and might I say, I’m highly impressed! Both are dupes for China Glaze colors, both I love and both I don’t own myself! Ha!

The colors I used were I Need a Refresh-Mint and Wet Cement. Both cost me a whole $1.23 each…well…when you count the coupons I used, they each cost me 23 cents. SCORE!!! You can find the coupon in this week’s junk mail that came out on Tuesday.

I Need a Refresh-Mint is a dupe for China Glaze’s For Audrey. It’s a pretty Tiffany Blue. I’d been on the fence about getting For Audrey for some time now, I own a ton of teals and sea-foam colors, but for 23 cents? Yes, I was going to get this polish.

Wet Cement is a dupe for China Glaze’s Foie Gras from the Hunger Games collection…of which I LOVE. It’s a brown-toned grey color, and while it doesn’t sound appealing, it’s very sophisticated and mature, but still has an edgy attitude.

I really like these polishes, they go on smooth, and the brush is nice. They’re rich but not thick, and the color pay off is awesome. For the $1.23 price tag (prices vary, I got mine at Marc’s) they are completely worth it…however I wasn’t impressed with the colors offered in the line as a whole. It may have just been the store I was at, but they didn’t offer a large array of colors. I’m hoping that changes in the future, or I find a better selection at another store.

Girl on Fire

Girl on Fire

I call this manicure “Girl on Fire” and is inspired by Katniss and her stylist team.

During the 74th game, Katniss mentions her stylists painted flames on her nails…and while this isn’t really flames, it’s a flame fade.

My goal was to use Smoke and Ashes, and make it look like coals glowing. It took 2 attempts for me to get this to it’s current state. I wanted to capture the way a wildfire looks when it’s burning at a distance.

I wanted to use as many colors from the China Glaze Colors of the Capital as I could…

Polishes Used Are….

China Glaze: Riveting, Smoke and Ashes, and Luxe and Lush

Wet n Wild: Fast Dry, 9021 Yellow and Everybody Loves Redmond

The Line Up!

The Line Up!

Step 2.

Step 2.

Step 1. Paint a base coat on your nails. Step 2. Use a sheer gold-yellow, paint entire nail.

Step 3. Riveting messing with the Camera!

Step 3. Riveting messing with the Camera!

Step 3. Using Riveting (Or another Orange…) get as much polish off the brush as possible, or use a make up sponge and dab the color on the nail, leaving the part closest to your nail bed gold. (See what I meant about Riveting messing with my camera?? You can still see where it should be on the nail however.)

Step 4.

Step 4.

Step 4. Add red just as you did orange. You’ll see now how the color fade into each other.

Step 5

Step 5

Step 5. This is the hardest one, because Smoke and Ashes is so dark. You want this to look like coals or wood that the fire is burning off of. Be very careful you don’t add too much, try and keep this limited to the nail tip, and if you do make it too high, don’t be afraid to add more red where the two colors meet to blend it out better. Also, don’t be afraid to make short whisps, it’ll look more like sticks burning. You can use black if you don’t have Smoke and Ashes.

Step 6

Step 6

Step 6. Lastly, using Luxe and Lush (Or another chunky texture coat like Zoya or Finger Paints) plop a few blobs at the tip atop the Smoke and Ashes, this will reflect the oranges and yellows, making Luxe and Lush look like glowing embers. Feel free to extend the flecks up into the red.

Step 7. A a healthy top coat!

Happy Hunger Games! May the odds ever be in your favor!

Polish Haulin! Nicole by OPI and Spoiled

OPI and Spoiled

OPI and Spoiled

Is it really considered a “Haul” when most of it was gifted? Eh…whatever.

Whenever I’m feeling blue, my mother makes it better by buying me nail polish! And well, CVS has had a sale on their Spoiled line 1.50 each with their in store card! Woo-hoo!

In the line up, Left to Right and Back to Front we have…

Nicole by OPI-  Turquoise Texture, Rainbow in the S-Kylie (Kardashian Collection), and Love Your Life.

Spoiled- Jewelry Heist, Shuffle the Deck, My Saturn Broke Down, and Permission to Proceed

Glitter Swatches

Glitter Swatches

Rainbow in the S-Kylie, Shuffle the Deck, Jewelry Heist, My Saturn Broke Down, Love Your Life

So just a heads up…the Nicole OPI Turquoise Texture (Shatter/Crackle) is the same as the regular OPI Turquoise Texture. The only thing I can see different on my nail wheel is their crackle pattern, and if you’ve played with shatter/crackle polishes, you know that’s not even a for sure thing. (Some polishes have large patches with a few crackles, other’s shatter all over the place.) Nicole’s patter crackles, with bigger chunks of crackle polish…maybe. I’d need to do many swatches and compare the two to be sure.

Rainbow in the S-Klyie surprised me. I hadn’t planned on getting any of the Kardashian collection, but since it was a gift I wasn’t going to send it back. I do like it, quite a bit in comparison to the other polishes in the collection that I found dull. This is chock-full of rainbow glitters with larger hexagon shaped glitters. It reminds me of a birthday party in a bottle. I like it a lot, and I’m sure I’ll be using it over other polishes in the future. It’s so fun and festive. It’s strait glitter, no iridescent sheen, just strait up solid colored glitter. The base polish is clear.

Love Your Life is a iridescent glitter with large pink hearts in a clear base. It looks like a sheer pink base in the bottle, but it’s not. I’m…m’eh about this one. It’s cute for Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day, or an Anniversary Dinner or something like that. The glitter doesn’t really pack much of a punch, and is barely there when swatched.

Shuffle the Deck is a chunky glitter topper, although I’m sure it could be worn on it’s own. Clear base polish. Non-iridescent glitter in Black, Red, and Silver.

Jewelry Heist is a little different then Shuffle the Deck. It has the same hexagon glitter chunks but in Pink and Silver with the addition of smaller Green, Silver, and Blue jewel toned baby glitter flecks.

Now for the odd one out…My Saturn Broke Down. Iridescent glitter flecks that flash blue, silver, green, and teal in a jelly base of blue with even smaller flecks of silver glitter. This is one of those polishes that will never be opaque, so don’t try. It’s meant to be sheer and wet looking.

Lastly…There isn’t too much to say about Permission to Proceed. It’s a matte Neon Green. The thing with neon colors, is they’ll always be rather sheer unless you use a base coat of white, so I suggest doing just that.

Magnetix Gold and Blue

Magnetix Gold and Blue

5. Magnetix by Pretty Woman LLC in Gold…love the polish, not the magnet. Use another brand’s magnet, or trim down the one that came with it.

My list of disses…

Lovely Brows

Beautiful Brows

1. Beautiful Brows, Parmatown Mall.

I was very torn on whether or not I liked this place. I’ve decided not. While the hair removal was very fast and only slightly painful, the customer service was seriously lacking, and she didn’t get all the hairs. Brow Threading is supposed to be known for complete hair removal, even those teeny tiny little baby hairs. It’s why it’s becoming so popular.

Now, that being said…I am willing to give this place a try again and maybe I will have better results with another worker. The one I encountered didn’t want to be bothered and was seriously annoyed at the idea of having ONE customer. Seriously, the place was dead and had been dead all afternoon.

Magnetic Polishes

Magnetic Polishes

2. Claire’s Magnetix Polish in Silver and Gold.

I like the green!

I was very unimpressed with the results after using the magnet…and I know it’s not the power of the magnet, it works just fine on other polishes!!

Illegal Length Mascara

Illegal Length Mascara

3. Maybelline’s Illegal Length Mascara

It flaked, it fell off, it made my head hurt, and my lashes were in no way running the risk of being arrested for too much length.

CT, Polish, and Baby Lips Review

Standard

Color Tattoo by Maybelline.

So I got a chance to try this on Sunday…and I must say I’m both impressed and disappointed.

Basically, I feel like these are dupes for Mac’s Paint Pots….which is FANTASTIC, but at the same time I don’t feel like these can stand alone. They really don’t have the pigment punch the ads say they do.

I sat down and compared the texture with my Mac Paint Pot, and it’s like dead on. So, that being said, I used this as a base under my makeup, and it worked amazingly well.

It does have the long lasting ability the package says it does. I applied my makeup at around 11am, and when I returned home at 9pm it was still in place, and that was after teaching a crazy choreo class and a  fundamentals class. I was very impressed.

For anyone who needs a good base for long lasting wear to make colors pop, these just rock. I seriously suggest picking up some in colors you wear often, you won’t regret it. Worth the 7 bucks.

I’ve been wanting to try the new Maybelline Baby Lips for some time now, but I hadn’t been able to find this color until today.

I got the color/flavor in 05 Quenched.

There’s no pigment to this one, it’s clear. The flavor is very mild, almost a floral like flavor rather then a fruity one. It’s rather odd…it sort of tasted like…well…make up…but not in a bad way.

it smells exactly the same. Sort of a fresh gummy bear scent besides the floral.

I like the way it feels too. As I’ve stated in past blogs, I don’t like how most products feel on my lips, but this leaves it smooth with out being too heavy at all. I’m very pleased, and I like this a lot! It’ll be good to have around as a back up for when I run out of my Bee Folks balm.

So besides all that…It also boasts SPF 20, and after 4 weeks of use my lips should be softer, visibly less dry, more supple, and all around better looking. Huzzah!

Lastly while I was in CVS today, I checked out their nail polishes. I’ve never tried their store brand Spoiled (By Wet n Wild) before, and for 2 bucks a bottle I figured why not?

I’m not 100% on weather this is their store brand, or a new line out by Wet n Wild. I’ve never seen this line anywhere else before, and there’s a ton of colors, so I’m making the store-brand assumption.

It’s insane how the left one glows in a flash…lol

From L to R…

S038 Did I Dye It Too Blonde? S048 Pet my Peacock, and S044 Distant Memory

So, Did I Dye it Too Blonde is insanely neon yellow. I like it. I’ve been wanting a crazy neon yellow for awhile…what I -really- like about this is that it’s thick and highly pigmented, and one or two coats will do just fine.

Pet my Peacock is like Mardi Gras in a bottle. A Blue, Purple, Green, and Silver glitter in a clear base. I thought I’d like this a lot more then I did. I’m a little disappointed, and I think to get the full punch it’s going to need quite a few coats.

And lastly, Distant Memory is a neon-teal color, which I also just adore. A good thick polish, it’s just lovely.

I really cant wait to get the neon yellow under the matte polish from Hard Candy.

So that’s it for now, still working on Part 2 for the Being a Goddess post. Still compiling things and ideas and info and other stuff.
